About the job

Production Designer

Part-Time Freelance, Approximately 15-25 Hours per Week

Position Summary

Research To Practice (RTP) is seeking a part-time freelance Production Designer to support the production, formatting, revision, and quality control of presentations and educational materials.

The Production Designer will work closely with RTP leadership and designated project leads to update, adapt, and prepare materials using established templates, existing presentations, and prior company deliverables. This role is primarily production-focused rather than conceptual design-focused. Success requires strong PowerPoint skills, InDesign and the ability to execute revisions quickly and accurately.

Key Responsibilities

Production & Presentation Support

  • Update, revise, format, and assemble PowerPoint presentations, educational materials, conference slide decks, meeting collateral, digital graphics, and other inDesign materials.
  • Adapt existing RTP presentations, templates, and prior deliverables for new projects and initiatives.
  • Implement revisions from executives, project managers, scientific staff, and content teams accurately and efficiently.
  • Format text, tables, charts, graphics, images, and layouts according to existing RTP standards.
  • Manage version control and ensure the correct materials are distributed and archived.
  • Create graphics, diagrams, and visual elements as needed.

Production Quality Control

  • Review materials for formatting consistency, alignment, typography, completeness, and accuracy.
  • Ensure deliverables adhere to RTP templates, branding standards, and established visual approaches.
  • Identify formatting issues, inconsistencies, and production errors before materials are distributed or published.
  • Maintain organized files, templates, graphic assets, and presentation libraries.

Workflow & Project Coordination

  • Work closely with RTP project leads to understand priorities, deadlines, and production requirements.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects with competing deadlines.
  • Participate in revision cycles and execute edits quickly while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Utilize prior RTP materials and historical examples whenever appropriate to improve efficiency and maintain consistency across projects.

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in production design, presentation production, graphic production, publishing production, or similar production-oriented role.
  • Advanced Microsoft PowerPoint skills, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat, and Photoshop.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Exceptional formatting, layout, and document-production skills.
  • Experience working with established templates, standards, and brand guidelines.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational and file-management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment.

Schedule and Availability

  • Part-time freelance position averaging approximately 15-25 hours per week.
  • Required availability Monday through Friday.
  • Expected availability of approximately 3-5 hours per day between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM Eastern Time.
  • Designer must be available for ongoing communication, assignment processing, review cycles, and revision requests during scheduled working hours.
  • This is not a project-based freelance arrangement with fully flexible hours. The position requires consistent day-to-day availability to support RTP production workflows and rapid-turnaround requests. RTP relies on coordinated production support across multiple simultaneous projects and deadlines.
  • Evening and weekend work is periodically required.
  • During conference seasons and other high-volume periods, weekly hours may temporarily exceed the typical schedule.
  • Reliability, responsiveness, and flexibility during peak periods are essential requirements of the position. RTP regularly supports conference and educational initiatives that generate time-sensitive deliverables.

Time Commitment

  • Approximately 15-25 hours per week.
  • Flexibility to participate in occasional meetings or outreach across US time zones.
