Ghost Job Detector
Some job ads stay online for months after anyone stops reading the applications. Psst marks every remote job so you can see which ones still look alive.
What we look at
- How long the job has been open. We count from the day the company published it. Over 3 months is a warning; over 6 months is a strong one.
- Reposts. The same job taken down and posted again, sometimes to look new.
- The same ad in many places. One job copied across dozens of cities or countries.
- No pay listed. A small signal on its own, but it adds up.
What it isn't
These are signals, not proof. Some companies keep a job open all year because they hire for it all the time. The detector helps you decide where to spend your evenings first; it doesn't accuse any company of anything.
Today on Psst
Of today's thousands of remote jobs, about a third have been open for 90 days or more. See the numbers in the daily remote jobs report, or test yourself in Fresh or forgotten?
Questions
What is a ghost job?
A job ad that stays online even though the company isn't actively hiring for it, or isn't reading new applications. Applying to one usually means never hearing back.
How does Psst detect ghost jobs?
It looks at how long the job has been open, whether it was reposted, whether the same ad appears in many locations, and whether pay is listed, then labels it Looks fresh, Check carefully or Ghost risk: high.
Can I hide ghost jobs in search?
Yes. In job search, set Ghost Job Detector to "Hide high ghost risk" or "Only jobs that look fresh".
