About Us
HireHawk connects experienced professionals with U.S. companies building high-performing remote teams. About the Role
We are looking for an experienced bilingual English-Spanish Civil Litigation Paralegal with hands-on California Personal Injury litigation experience. You will take substantial ownership of written discovery, communicate directly with Spanish-speaking clients, prepare litigation documents, and help attorneys keep cases moving toward deadlines.
This is role is for someone who already understands how California civil litigation works in practice. You should be comfortable handling routine litigation matters independently, identifying what information is missing, following up proactively, and knowing when an issue requires attorney review.
The team values practical PI litigation knowledge, reliability, and work ethic more than having a minimal accent. Strong bilingual communication and the ability to get accurate information from clients matter most.
Responsibilities
- Own the preparation, organization, and coordination of written discovery for California Personal Injury litigation matters.
- Prepare and support responses to interrogatories, requests for production, requests for admission, and related discovery requests.
- Communicate directly with English- and Spanish-speaking clients to gather case facts, records, documents, and other information required for discovery.
- Review client responses and supporting documents, identify missing or incomplete information, and follow up until discovery packages are ready for attorney review.
- Draft and prepare pleadings and other routine civil litigation documents with limited supervision.
- Coordinate with attorneys to ensure discovery responses, pleadings, and supporting materials are complete, accurate, and submitted on time.
- Track California litigation deadlines, discovery due dates, court dates, and other case-related milestones.
- Prepare and coordinate California Superior Court filings and electronic filings.
- Organize medical records, supporting documents, client materials, and litigation files so attorneys can quickly access the information they need.
- Assist with motions and other litigation documentation when required while recognizing when attorney input or approval is necessary.
Requirements
Must-Have
- Significant hands-on experience supporting U.S. Personal Injury civil litigation matters, including practical California litigation experience.
- Strong working knowledge of California civil discovery procedures, workflows, and deadlines.
- Demonstrated experience preparing interrogatories, requests for production, requests for admission, and related discovery responses.
- Fluent English and Spanish, both written and spoken, with the confidence to communicate directly with Spanish-speaking clients about detailed case information.
- Strong legal drafting and document-review skills, including experience preparing pleadings and supporting litigation documents.
- Experience managing multiple active matters, competing deadlines, litigation calendars, and court filing requirements with a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to independently handle routine civil litigation work, proactively resolve missing information, and appropriately escalate substantive legal questions to attorneys.
Nice to Have
- Experience with California Superior Court electronic filing systems.
- Experience using MerusCase or comparable litigation case management software; MerusCase experience is strongly preferred.
- Paralegal certification or formal legal education.
- Previous experience working remotely with U.S. attorneys or litigation teams.
- Broader experience supporting motions and other pretrial litigation work.
