About the Role
The Technical Writer/Editor supports AppGate's work on the Cloud Native Access Point (CNAP), a Zero Trust access service for Department of Defense (DoD) users and Air Force programs. You will write, edit and maintain the technical, security and program documents the team delivers to the Government, working closely with engineers and the program office. This is a junior-level role for a writer with federal experience who wants to grow in cybersecurity and cloud documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Edit and write functional descriptions, system specifications, user manuals, special reports and other customer deliverables, including information security documents.
- Turn engineer drafts and notes into clear, accurate, well-organized documents such as system design documents, network and data flow descriptions, interface control documents, as-built documents and standard operating procedures.
- Update security and user documentation as CNAP deployments, configurations and onboarded programs change.
- Help the engineering team prepare security accreditation documents that follow Department of the Air Force (DAF) Risk Management Framework (RMF) policies.
- Keep the program's documentation repository current: apply numbering and version control, record author, approver, effective date and superseded version, and follow Government document control and approval practices.
- Edit program management deliverables such as project plans, status reports, quarterly review materials and transition plans.
- Apply AppGate templates and style guides, and proofread for grammar, consistency, accuracy and formatting.
- Route documents for review and approval and track deliverables against due dates.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of 2 years of professional technical writing or editing experience.
- Experience writing or editing documents for a federal government customer (DoD, civilian agency or federal contractor).
- Active Secret clearance.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience documenting cybersecurity topics, especially Zero Trust, ZTNA or the DoD Zero Trust strategy.
- Familiarity with Cloud Native Access Point (CNAP), Platform One or Cloud One.
- Experience writing about cloud environments (AWS, Azure or other cloud platforms).
- Experience with RMF and Authority to Operate (ATO) documentation.
- Degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Technical Writing, Computer Science or a related field.
- Skill with Microsoft Word and SharePoint. Experience with Confluence or diagramming tools such as Visio is a plus.
Compensation
Base Salary: $90,000 to $120,000
