About the job

Major League Hacking Streamers are community members who present technical topics at our digital events.  They are passionate hackers and community members who love to teach and support peers of all skill levels. They are passionate about developer education and creative in their presentation style.

Becoming a Streamer

Why should I become a Streamer?

As a Streamer, you'll be deeply involved in our dynamic digital events like Global Hack Week, preparing presentations that are both engaging and educational. If you are passionate about Developer Evangelism/DevRel, if you're an aspiring content creator, or if you were always tutoring your classmates on tricky topics, becoming a Streamer might be a great fit.

You must be 18 or over for this position.

Is this a paid position?

Yes. We want to provide an opportunity for any student hacker to fully focus on giving back to the hackathon community without having to worry about how they can afford to do so. We view your work as a Streamer as an alternative to a campus job or becoming a T.A.  We pay all Streamers in USD. Our rates are adjusted by purchasing power parity depending on what country you're based in. We use OECD data .

What does the workload look like for a Streamer?

Streamers are expected to produce a minimum of two technical streams (approximately 4 hours of content) per event in which you participate. You will be expected to participate in a minimum of 6 events a year. You will be responsible for the preparation of your streams (including any slides or visual aids) as well as your audio/visual setup.

What experience are you looking for?

You should be passionate about developer education. Strong public speaking and communication skills are required, as are exceptional time management skills.  A teaching or content creation background helps, but isn’t a requisite.

What does the application process look like?

The application process starts by applying via the form here. We’ll send you a writing assignment to assess your ability to scope, prepare, and deliver a presentation on stream.  Candidates who pass the writing assignment will be invited to an interview in which you'll be asked to present part of your presentation as if you were streaming to an MLH audience.

  • Need To Have
  • High quality A/V setup
  • Solid organizational skills; able to set your own schedule and abide by it
  • Passion for developer education
  • Creative and somewhat improvisational; comfortable on stream
  • Based in EMEA or APAC or willing to work those hours

Nice to Have

  • Experience with public speaking OR online content creation
  • Teaching experience is a major plus

A Successful Streamer Will

  • Stream regularly, producing a minimum of two technical streams for every GHW in which you participate.
  • Participate in at least 50% of GHWs in 2025.
  • Consistently provide stream availability in a timely fashion when requested (even when it’s zero)
  • Stream from a reliable A/V setup (no outages on stream)
  • Balance entertainment with education; cover interesting topics while making themselves approachable and relatable
  • Avoid “dead air” during streams; fill time with valuable “MLHy” content
  • Act as the “MLHer in Charge” when streaming; monitor attendee behavior and take action as necessary to protect the experience for everyone.
