About the job
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Specialist, Counterparty Credit Risk based remotely in Canada.
We are looking for a detail-oriented credit risk professional to support the development and operation of a centralized counterparty credit risk function. In this role, you will manage end-to-end credit assessments and ongoing monitoring, helping ensure that financial exposures remain within approved risk limits. You will analyze counterparty financial information, evaluate potential risks, and deliver clear recommendations that support sound business decisions. Working across Treasury, Finance, Market Risk, Legal, Product, and Securities Lending, you will contribute to a broad range of capital markets and brokerage activities. You will also help shape the policies, procedures, and frameworks that support a consistent, scalable, and auditable risk management approach. This is an opportunity to take ownership, build processes, and make a meaningful contribution within a growing, collaborative, and remote-first environment.
Accountabilities
You will oversee counterparty credit risk assessments and monitoring while helping strengthen the processes and controls that support the broader risk management function. Your responsibilities will include:
•
Own and continuously improve counterparty credit risk assessment procedures, ensuring consistency, scalability, and auditability.
•
Conduct comprehensive credit assessments for new and existing counterparties, including financial statement analysis and relevant regulatory considerations.
•
Prepare detailed written credit recommendations and determine appropriate credit limits based on financial performance and other risk factors.
•
Monitor counterparty exposures, concentration limits, and stress-testing results to ensure they remain within approved thresholds.
•
Identify emerging risks, escalate potential breaches or concerns, and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
•
Support the development, maintenance, and enforcement of counterparty credit risk policies, credit limit frameworks, and operating procedures.
•
Collaborate with Treasury, Finance, Market Risk, Legal, Product, Securities Lending, and other stakeholders to support effective risk oversight.
•
Make well-reasoned decisions in a fast-paced environment, including when information is incomplete, while clearly documenting assumptions and associated risks.
•
Build and maintain constructive relationships with internal stakeholders and external counterparties.
•
Contribute to the ongoing development of a centralized counterparty credit risk function.
Requirements
The ideal candidate brings practical experience in credit analysis or counterparty risk management, preferably within an investment dealer or brokerage environment. You should combine strong analytical judgment with initiative, organization, and the ability to communicate complex financial concepts clearly. The following qualifications are expected:
•
1–3+ years of experience in counterparty credit risk, credit analysis, or a related credit risk management role within an investment dealer or brokerage environment.
•
Working knowledge of broker-dealer regulatory capital requirements, including risk-adjusted capital and net excess capital.
•
Ability to interpret regulatory filings such as Form 1 and FOCUS reports.
•
Strong financial analysis and credit assessment skills, with the ability to translate findings into clear, actionable recommendations.
•
Progress toward a CFA, CPA, or FRM designation is preferred.
•
Strong ownership and initiative, with the ability to identify potential risks proactively and develop solutions independently.
•
Ability to investigate underlying issues, continuously expand professional knowledge, and adapt to evolving responsibilities.
•
Effective planning, organization, and prioritization skills, particularly when managing multiple concurrent priorities.
•
Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex credit and risk concepts to different audiences.
•
Ability to collaborate across teams and build productive professional relationships.
Benefits
•
Annual base salary range of CAD 69,600–87,000 , depending on skills, experience, and role level. Exceptional candidates may be considered above the stated range.
•
Equity compensation for permanent employees.
•
Top-tier health benefits and life insurance.
•
Long-term group savings plan with employer matching.
•
20 vacation days per year.
•
4 wellness days per year.
•
Unlimited paid sick and mental health days, subject to role eligibility.
•
Opportunity to work outside Canada for up to 90 days per year, subject to role eligibility.
•
Employee resource groups supporting inclusion and community, including groups for 2SLGBTQ+ employees, women, and Black employees.
•
Remote work arrangement within Canada.
•
Collaborative environment with colleagues across North America.
•
Opportunities to work with modern technology, explore AI-enabled tools, and contribute to continuous improvement and innovation.
