About the job

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior IT Systems Engineer based in the United States.

As a Senior IT Systems Engineer, you will design and improve the internal technology systems that enable a growing organization to operate securely, efficiently, and at scale. You will take ownership of enterprise platforms, integrations, and automation initiatives that reduce manual work and enhance employee productivity. Working closely with IT Operations, Security, and engineering teams, you will transform recurring technical issues into sustainable solutions and strengthen the reliability of the technology environment. From gathering requirements and designing workflows to testing, documentation, and implementation, you will lead projects through their full lifecycle. This hands-on engineering role offers the opportunity to influence technical decisions, support secure technology adoption, and build scalable systems that evolve with business needs. You will join a collaborative, remote-first environment that values practical problem-solving, technical ownership, and continuous learning.

Accountabilities

In this role, you will manage and enhance enterprise technology systems, develop reliable automations, and lead engineering projects that improve security, scalability, and operational efficiency.

•

Administer and continuously improve enterprise platforms, including Google Workspace, Slack, Jira, AWS, and other core IT systems, reviewing configurations, access controls, and capabilities to strengthen security and usability.

•

Design, build, test, document, and maintain automated workflows and integrations that reduce repetitive tasks and enable dependable employee self-service.

•

Collaborate with IT Operations to investigate complex technical escalations, identify root causes, and implement scalable solutions that prevent recurring issues.

•

Lead systems engineering projects from requirements gathering and solution design through implementation, testing, monitoring, documentation, and operational handoff.

•

Balance business requirements, security, reliability, maintainability, and implementation effort when evaluating technical solutions.

•

Partner with Security, Internal Automation, business stakeholders, and technology vendors to support secure enterprise technology adoption and internal automation initiatives.

•

Help employees and internal teams use technology safely and effectively, including supporting the development of secure AI-enabled workflows.

•

Contribute to systems, processes, and technical documentation that support future requirements for secure federal environments and compliance initiatives.

•

Apply sound technical judgment when managing access, testing changes, implementing safeguards, and planning rollback procedures.

•

Identify opportunities to improve system architecture, integration reliability, and operational processes as the organization grows.

•

Work closely with other systems engineers and IT leadership to share knowledge, improve engineering practices, and ensure long-term system sustainability.

Requirements

The ideal candidate is an experienced systems engineer who combines hands-on technical expertise with strong troubleshooting skills, independent project ownership, and a practical approach to building reliable enterprise solutions.

•

At least 8 years of relevant IT systems engineering experience, or equivalent experience demonstrating senior-level technical ownership.

•

Strong hands-on administration and engineering experience across multiple enterprise platforms, such as Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, Jira, AWS, identity providers, or endpoint management systems.

•

Demonstrated experience personally building and maintaining automated workflows, integrations, or self-service solutions using APIs, scripting, or automation platforms.

•

Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills, including the ability to use logs and command-line tools to investigate complex problems, identify root causes, and implement lasting improvements.

•

Sound understanding of access controls, data security, testing, change management, rollback planning, and technical risk management.

•

Ability to evaluate build-versus-buy decisions while considering implementation complexity, ongoing maintenance, security, and long-term reliability.

•

Proven ability to independently deliver technical projects from initial requirements through implementation, testing, documentation, and operational handoff.

•

Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage competing demands and maintain consistent delivery.

•

Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, operational teams, business stakeholders, and external vendors.

•

A proactive, problem-solving mindset and a commitment to building practical, scalable systems rather than relying on recurring manual support.

The following experience would be advantageous but is not required

•

Previous experience with Tines, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or other enterprise automation and cloud technologies.

•

Familiarity with regulated environments and security frameworks or requirements such as CMMC, FedRAMP, or Microsoft 365 GCC High.

•

Experience supporting secure enterprise AI adoption and helping teams use AI tools responsibly.

•

Experience preparing technical systems documentation for compliance, audits, or security reviews.

Candidates must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States. Visa sponsorship or sponsorship transfers are not available for this position.

Benefits

The organization offers competitive compensation, equity participation, and opportunities to grow professionally while contributing to the development of scalable internal technology systems.

•

Base salary: Up to $145,000 per year.

•

Equity: Opportunity to receive equity as part of the compensation package.

•

Remote work: Remote position for candidates based in the United States, with a preference for those in the Eastern Time Zone.

•

Collaborative working environment: Work closely with IT leadership and engineering colleagues, with opportunities for in-person collaboration for candidates in the Boston area.

•

Meaningful technical ownership: Lead systems improvements and automation projects that directly influence how the organization operates.

•

Professional growth: Develop expertise across enterprise platforms, integrations, automation, cloud technologies, and secure AI adoption.

•

Cross-functional collaboration: Partner with IT Operations, Security, Internal Automation, and business teams on impactful technical initiatives.

•

Career development: Contribute to the evolution of internal systems and engineering practices within a growing technology organization.
