About the job
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Full Stack PHP Developer, Product Catalogue and Quoting based in United Kingdom.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Full Stack PHP Developer to lead the architecture and development of a new product catalogue and quoting platform from the ground up. In this hands-on role, you will build scalable systems capable of ingesting, processing, and maintaining millions of product records from multiple sources. You will combine deep PHP and Symfony expertise with strong data modeling skills to deliver reliable product information management, robust APIs, and flexible quoting functionality. Your work will also involve asynchronous processing, web scraping, caching, monitoring, and contributing to a modern frontend using React. Collaborating with developers and product data specialists, you will have substantial ownership over technical decisions, system reliability, and long-term product direction. This is a full-time remote opportunity for a Europe-based professional who can maintain regular working-hour overlap with the team between 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Paris time.
Accountabilities
•
Own the technical architecture and development of the product catalogue and quoting platform, ensuring scalability, maintainability, reliability, and observability.
•
Design robust data models for products, variants, specifications, pricing, configurable options, accessories, and discounts.
•
Develop and maintain the PHP 8 and Symfony backend, including REST APIs, integrations, and supporting application services.
•
Build data ingestion pipelines that collect, normalize, validate, deduplicate, and enrich large volumes of manufacturer product information.
•
Develop reliable web crawling and scraping systems to gather product specifications, descriptions, images, and other relevant data.
•
Implement processes for initial imports, incremental updates, error recovery, and ongoing product data maintenance, enabling efficient review and correction of incomplete or inconsistent records.
•
Build asynchronous processing workflows and background jobs using Symfony Messenger and message queues, supported by effective caching strategies with Redis or similar technologies.
•
Establish robust failure handling, retry mechanisms, monitoring, logging, metrics, error tracking, and alerting to maintain production reliability.
•
Identify performance bottlenecks and continuously optimize application efficiency, resource utilization, and data processing workflows.
•
Develop quoting capabilities that support projects, line items, pricing, markups, and customer-ready quotes.
•
Contribute to customer-facing and internal interfaces using modern JavaScript, with React preferred, and ensure smooth integration with backend APIs.
•
Establish development standards, automated testing practices, and architectural patterns that support long-term maintainability.
•
Collaborate with developers and colleagues responsible for product data review, translating business requirements into practical technical solutions.
•
Take ownership of technical challenges from design through implementation, deployment, and ongoing improvement, while evaluating AI coding tools and other technologies that can enhance productivity and product quality.
Requirements
•
At least 5 years of professional software development experience.
•
Expert-level, hands-on proficiency with PHP 8 and Symfony.
•
Proven experience building or maintaining product information management (PIM) systems, product catalogue platforms, or comparable product data solutions.
•
Experience designing and operating large-scale data ingestion pipelines, ideally processing at least one million records.
•
Strong data modeling skills and extensive experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and ORM frameworks such as Doctrine.
•
Practical experience with asynchronous processing, message queues, background jobs, and caching technologies such as Redis.
•
Proven ability to build reliable web crawling and scraping systems.
•
Strong experience designing, developing, and consuming REST APIs.
•
Experience with production monitoring, logging, error tracking, troubleshooting, and application performance optimization.
•
Understanding of game-changing data quality challenges, including normalization, validation, deduplication, and consistency across multiple sources.
•
Strong problem-solving abilities, independent technical judgment, and a clear sense of ownership and accountability.
•
Exceptional attention to detail, analytical and systems-oriented thinking, and the ability to learn new technologies and business domains quickly.
•
Excellent communication skills, professional fluency in English, and a collaborative approach to working with colleagues and receiving feedback.
•
Nice to have: Experience with quoting, configure-price-quote (CPQ) systems, product configuration software, complex ecommerce catalogues, manufacturer data, or product feeds.
•
Additional advantages: Experience with React and modern JavaScript, automated testing and CI/CD pipelines, AI-assisted product data enrichment or classification, and AI coding tools.
•
Familiarity with commercial kitchen equipment, foodservice supplies, or the broader equipment distribution industry is beneficial.
•
Experience with pixel art is not required; the role focuses on full-stack engineering and product data systems.
•
Candidates must be based in Europe, be authorized to work from their country of residence under the proposed employment arrangement, and be able to work full-time with regular overlap between 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Paris time.
Benefits
•
Fully remote work from anywhere within Europe, subject to the applicable employment arrangement.
•
Meaningful ownership of a new product and the opportunity to shape its technical architecture and long-term direction.
•
Challenging engineering work involving large-scale data ingestion, automation, product information management, and quoting workflows.
•
Direct impact on ecommerce operations and the way customers discover products and purchase commercial equipment.
•
A collaborative environment that encourages practical problem-solving, technical initiative, and continuous improvement.
•
Opportunities to contribute ideas, make important technical decisions, and see the business impact of your work.
•
Compensation: Competitive compensation details are not specified. Applicants are asked to provide their expected monthly compensation in USD.
•
Other benefits: Specific healthcare coverage, paid leave, and additional financial perks are not detailed in the available job description.
