About the job
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Security Engineer II (Data Protection and Network Security) based in the United States.
As a Security Engineer II, you will help strengthen enterprise security by supporting and optimizing data protection and network security controls across a distributed organization. You will work with security technologies such as Zscaler and Data Loss Prevention (DLP) to investigate alerts, resolve access issues, and improve security policies. Your work will help reduce security risks, minimize false positives, and ensure that employees can work securely and efficiently. Collaborating with IT, Network Engineering, Compliance, and business stakeholders, you will contribute to consistent security practices and clearly defined escalation processes. This role combines hands-on technical troubleshooting, policy optimization, documentation, and continuous improvement. It is an excellent opportunity to develop your cybersecurity expertise while making a measurable impact in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.
Accountabilities
- Security Ticket Triage and User Support: Review, categorize, and prioritize incoming Zscaler and DLP tickets according to severity, routing complex cases to the appropriate teams. Investigate common policy blocks and security alerts, help end users resolve access issues, and provide clear guidance while maintaining accurate documentation to support service-level agreements (SLAs) and reporting.
- Data Protection and Network Security Optimization: Tune DLP detection rules and Zscaler policies to improve accuracy, reduce false positives and false negatives, and adapt security controls to evolving data types and business requirements. Support the rollout of policy changes across business units, maintain a registry of active policies and exceptions with their business justifications, and participate in testing and validation before production deployment.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Help establish clear ownership, responsibilities, and escalation paths for Zscaler and DLP issues across Security, IT, and business teams. Collaborate with Network Engineering, Compliance, and other stakeholders to improve operational alignment and ensure consistent handling of security requests and exceptions.
- Documentation and Process Improvement: Develop and maintain knowledge base articles, operational runbooks, and troubleshooting playbooks. Participate in team planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives, identify opportunities to streamline workflows, and contribute to recurring reports covering ticket volumes, SLA performance, and outstanding operational gaps.
- Continuous Security Improvement: Contribute to the reliability and effectiveness of enterprise security platforms through structured troubleshooting, disciplined operational practices, and ongoing refinement of security controls. Support the adoption of new technologies and automation opportunities that improve efficiency and strengthen organizational protection.
Requirements
- Professional Experience: 2–4 years of experience in cybersecurity, IT operations, network security, or a related technical field, with practical experience investigating and resolving security policy or access-related issues.
- Technical Knowledge: Working knowledge of network security concepts and/or data protection principles, including Data Loss Prevention (DLP), secure web gateways, and Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA). Familiarity with security policy management, alert investigation, and troubleshooting is essential.
- Operational Discipline: Experience working with structured ticketing processes, checklists, service-level agreements, and escalation procedures. Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate, consistent, audit-ready records are required.
- Communication and Collaboration: Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues and policy requirements to both technical and non-technical audiences. A collaborative, empathetic approach and the ability to work effectively across multiple teams are important.
- Organization and Problem-Solving: Strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and the ability to prioritize competing requests, investigate issues methodically, and contribute to continuous process improvement.
- Learning and Adaptability: Curiosity about emerging technologies, a proactive approach to learning new security tools, and a growth mindset focused on feedback, experimentation, and continuous improvement.
- Work Authorization: Authorization to work in the United States for any employer.
- Preferred Technical Skills: At least one year of software development or scripting experience using Python, PowerShell, or similar tools to automate triage, reporting, or policy tuning.
- Additional Preferred Qualifications: Experience with security information and event management (SIEM) tools or IT service management platforms such as Splunk or ServiceNow; exposure to cloud security or network architecture; and relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Network+, or a Zscaler or DLP vendor certification.
- Preferred Industry Experience: Familiarity with regulated or audited environments and compliance frameworks such as SOX, HIPAA, or PCI.
