About the job

Ocean Infinity is a technology-led maritime company operating at the forefront of autonomy, robotics and remote operations. Through our advanced fleet of unmanned surface vessels (USVs), we deliver complex maritime operations and mission-critical services in some of the most challenging environments around the world.

As we continue to expand our autonomous operations capability, we are looking for Remote Vessel Operators to join our Remote Operations Centre (ROC) in Southampton. This is a unique opportunity to operate cutting-edge autonomous maritime systems and support real-world missions that are helping redefine the future of maritime operations.

As a Remote Vessel Operator, you will be responsible for the safe and effective operation of unmanned surface vessels (USVs) from Ocean Infinity's Remote Operations Centre. Working closely with Operations Managers, engineers and customers, you will monitor vessel activity, support mission execution, analyse operational information and ensure compliance with maritime regulations and operational procedures.

These are highly operational roles suited to individuals who enjoy working in dynamic environments, making sound decisions, and maintaining high standards of safety, professionalism and mission delivery.

  • Operate and monitor USVs during live missions from the Remote Operations Centre.
  • Conduct mission planning and support safe vessel navigation in accordance with maritime regulations.
  • Monitor operational information and position vessels to maximise mission effectiveness.
  • Communicate with Operations Managers and wider operational teams to support mission delivery.
  • Conduct routine system checks, maintain operational logs and complete mission reporting.
  • Support customer briefings, demonstrations and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Identify, report and help resolve technical or operational issues during missions.

Requirements

We're looking for individuals with operational maritime experience who can work confidently in a fast-paced environment and make sound decisions under pressure.

You will bring

  • Experience working in a maritime environment.
  • Strong understanding of maritime navigation principles and COLREGs.
  • A recognised maritime qualification, such as RYA Advanced Powerboat (Commercially Endorsed), MCA Small Ships Navigation and Radar (SSNR), Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships certification, STCW, or an equivalent maritime qualification.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
  • The ability to quickly learn new systems and procedures.
  • A proactive, adaptable and self-reliant approach to work.
  • Experience operating within regulated or safety-critical environments.

Given the nature of the work, this role requires you to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of UK national security clearance. You must be willing and able to undergo the necessary security vetting process, and continued employment in the role may be subject to maintaining the required clearance. Security vetting will be conducted in accordance with the requirements and standards set by United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV). Further information on UK security clearance levels, eligibility, and the vetting process can be found on the UK Government website: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/united-kingdom-security-vetting-applicant

Desirable

  • Experience with autonomous, remotely operated or uncrewed systems.
  • Maritime navigation, vessel operations or watchkeeping experience.
  • Experience within defence, security or government-supported operations.
  • Relevant maritime qualifications and safety training.
  • Understanding of autonomous maritime operations and emerging technologies.

Working Arrangements

These roles support live maritime operations and customer missions. Successful candidates should be comfortable working in a shift-based operational environment that may include nights, weekends, public holidays and periods of on-call support. Operational demands may occasionally require flexibility in working hours and schedules at short notice.
