About the job

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Pessoa Consultora de Energy & Utilities (Estudos e Grid Elétrico) based in Brazil.

As an Energy & Utilities Consultant, you will contribute to the modernization and transformation of the energy sector, with a particular focus on electrical grid studies and distribution network planning. You will work on challenging consulting projects, translating complex engineering data into actionable insights and practical solutions for clients. Your role will involve power flow analysis, network modeling, technical diagnostics, and cost-benefit assessments to improve grid performance, reliability, and efficiency. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary and international teams, engaging with technical specialists, business stakeholders, and project leaders to address critical operational challenges. You will also help identify opportunities for automation, digitalization, and innovative energy solutions, including battery energy storage systems and distributed generation. This remote opportunity combines technical engineering expertise with strategic consulting, offering the chance to support a more efficient, resilient, and sustainable energy infrastructure.

Accountabilities

  • Client Transformation and Project Delivery: Support the transformation of client operations by structuring business and technical challenges, collaborating with project leaders, and developing effective solutions for complex problems.
  • Electrical Grid Studies and Planning: Conduct electrical distribution network planning studies, evaluate grid performance, and support projects involving network expansion, upgrades, modernization, and refurbishment.
  • Network Modeling and Calibration: Model and calibrate electrical distribution networks using real-world utility data, accounting for data quality limitations and inconsistencies in technical asset registers, GIS/BDGD databases, network connectivity, conductor parameters, and transformer characteristics.
  • Power Flow Analysis and Technical Diagnostics: Perform power flow studies on high- and medium-voltage networks, assess voltage and loading conditions against applicable PRODIST requirements, and diagnose overloads, undervoltage, and overvoltage issues.
  • Alternative Assessment and Cost-Benefit Analysis: Evaluate conventional and innovative grid solutions, comparing technical feasibility, operational performance, and economic impact. Consider options such as battery energy storage systems (BESS), distributed generation (DG), and demand response.
  • Technical Documentation and Reporting: Conduct structured interviews with technical teams, review engineering, construction, maintenance, reliability, and regulatory reports, and prepare technical analyses and presentations for clients.
  • Requirements Gathering and Digital Solutions: Identify business and operational requirements for automation and software solutions, translating technical challenges into actionable specifications and supporting technology teams in delivering effective implementations.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration: Engage with stakeholders across engineering, business, and management functions, reconcile different technical perspectives, and contribute to multidisciplinary projects across industries.
  • Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve projects, services, systems, processes, and organizational structures while contributing to innovative solutions in collaboration with global teams.
  • Client Engagement and Field Activities: When required, travel to client sites to collect data, understand operational conditions, and coordinate activities that support project delivery.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is required. Additional courses or certifications in electrical studies and the Brazilian Electrical Power System (SEP) are considered an advantage.
  • Distribution Network Planning: Demonstrated experience in electrical power distribution network planning, including network modeling, calibration using real utility data, and evaluation of network expansion or modernization alternatives.
  • Power Systems Engineering: Strong knowledge of power flow analysis in high- and medium-voltage networks, loading and voltage criteria under PRODIST, and the diagnosis of overloads, undervoltage, and overvoltage conditions.
  • Network Data and Modeling: Experience working with real-world distribution utility data, including technical asset databases such as BDGD/GIS, network connectivity information, and conductor and transformer parameters.
  • Technical and Economic Assessment: Experience evaluating alternative engineering solutions and conducting cost-benefit analyses to support technical recommendations and investment decisions.
  • Energy Sector Knowledge: Understanding of Energy & Utilities operations, electrical distribution infrastructure, and grid expansion and refurbishment projects.
  • Emerging Energy Solutions: Familiarity with conventional and non-conventional grid solutions, including battery energy storage systems (BESS), distributed generation, and demand response.
  • Technical Tools and Programming: Knowledge of Python and power system analysis tools such as OpenDSS and/or pandapower is an advantage. Familiarity with ANAREDE and related electrical network analysis software is also desirable.
  • Digitalization and Automation: Knowledge of asset digitalization, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), and SCADA systems is a plus.
  • Consulting Experience: Previous experience in consulting, structured problem-solving methodologies, and continuous improvement practices is desirable.
  • Languages: Advanced English and Spanish proficiency, both written and spoken, is desirable.
  • Analytical and Communication Skills: Strong analytical thinking, technical report interpretation, structured problem-solving, and the ability to communicate complex engineering concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaboration and Adaptability: Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary and international teams, manage competing perspectives, and adapt to complex project environments.
