We are seeking a detail-oriented Financial Accountant to maintain accurate financial records, support reporting processes, and ensure the integrity of general ledger and sub-ledger accounts. In this role, you will manage complex reconciliations, prepare journal entries, and analyze financial statements for designated business units and clients. You will play an important part in monitoring financial performance, supporting budgeting activities, and maintaining compliance with accounting policies and regulatory requirements. Working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, you will provide financial guidance, resolve accounting issues, and strengthen client relationships. This opportunity is well suited to an accounting professional who combines strong analytical skills with integrity, sound judgment, and a commitment to service. The position offers remote work and the chance to contribute to an organization focused on community support and social impact.

Accountabilities

•

Maintain the accuracy and integrity of general ledger and sub-ledger accounts through account reconciliations, transaction reviews, and compliance with accounting policies and internal controls.

•

Prepare financial analyses, account reconciliations, accruals, prepaid expenses, and recurring or one-time journal entries to support reliable financial reporting.

•

Review financial statements, cash flow, fund balances, and budget results for designated ministry units and clients, identifying potential risks and escalating concerns when appropriate.

•

Manage banking activities, including daily bank reconciliations and the timely processing of incoming and outgoing fund transfers.

•

Verify that financial transactions are properly authorized, supported by appropriate documentation, accurately recorded, and assigned to the correct accounting period.

•

Coordinate accounting transactions and contribute to timely month-end and year-end closing activities.

•

Serve as the primary financial contact for assigned clients and ministry units, responding to inquiries, resolving discrepancies, and explaining financial statement results.

•

Build strong working relationships with stakeholders through proactive communication, responsive service, and guidance on accounting policies and procedures.

•

Support budgeting and forecasting processes by assisting with budget preparation and conducting variance analyses to identify financial trends, risks, and opportunities.

•

Prepare and administer regulatory reporting requirements, including tax rebate claims and charitable filings, ensuring compliance with applicable government and legislative requirements.

•

Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, strengthen internal controls, and document processes within the assigned area of responsibility.

Requirements

•

A university degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

•

At least two years of professional experience in an accounting or finance environment.

•

Demonstrated experience with general accounting, financial analysis, account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting.

•

A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, or progress toward completing the designation, is considered an asset.

•

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate financial information.

•

Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency, including VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, INDIRECT, TRIM, LEFT, RIGHT, MID, SUBSTITUTE, and complex IF formulas.

•

Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and other business applications used for financial reporting and documentation.

•

Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.

•

A customer-focused approach, with the ability to build collaborative relationships, address inquiries professionally, and resolve issues in a timely manner.

•

High standards of integrity, confidentiality, professional ethics, fairness, and sound judgment when handling sensitive financial data.

•

The ability to manage multiple accounting responsibilities, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders.

•

Meaningful organizational impact: Contribute to financial stewardship and the effective delivery of services that support communities and people in need.

•
