About the job
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an English to German (Germany or Switzerland) Linguist & Copy Editor for Product, Marketing & UI Content based in Ireland.
Join a long-term, international localization project supporting a leading multinational company through high-quality English-to-German translation and copy editing. In this freelance, fully remote role, you will work with content spanning marketing, product, user interfaces, customer support, informational materials, and light legal documentation. You will help ensure that content is accurate, culturally relevant, consistent, and engaging for German-speaking audiences in Germany and/or Switzerland. Working within a collaborative global network of language professionals, you will contribute to high-visibility projects while maintaining strong linguistic standards. With an expected workload of 5,000+ words per week, this opportunity is ideal for an experienced linguist seeking ongoing work and a long-term professional partnership.
Accountabilities
As an English-to-German linguist and copy editor, you will deliver accurate, polished, and audience-appropriate localized content while meeting project deadlines and quality expectations. Your responsibilities will include:
•
Translate content from US English into German for Germany (de-DE) and/or Switzerland (de-CH), ensuring linguistic accuracy, natural phrasing, and cultural relevance.
•
Copy-edit and refine German-language content to improve clarity, readability, consistency, tone, and overall quality.
•
Perform machine translation post-editing (MTPE), correcting errors and ensuring that machine-generated translations meet professional standards.
•
Work across a variety of content types, including marketing materials, product content, user interface text, customer support resources, informational content, and light legal documentation.
•
Use computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools and the client's designated translation platform to manage assignments and maintain consistency.
•
Handle an expected volume of more than 5,000 words per week while delivering high-quality work on schedule.
•
Communicate proactively with project stakeholders, respond to feedback, and incorporate revisions as needed.
•
Follow project guidelines, terminology requirements, and quality standards throughout the localization process.
Requirements
The ideal candidate is an experienced English-to-German language professional with excellent linguistic judgment, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced localization environment. Candidates should meet one of the following experience and education pathways and demonstrate the following qualifications:
•
Native-level proficiency in German, specifically for Germany (de-DE) and/or Switzerland (de-CH).
•
Excellent command of US English (en-US), with the ability to understand source content accurately and convey its intended meaning in German.
•
At least 2 years of professional translation experience and a degree in Translation, Linguistics, or a related field; alternatively, at least 5 years of professional translation experience without a formal translation degree.
•
Demonstrated experience translating from English into German across multiple content types, including marketing, product, UI, support, and informational materials.
•
Practical experience using computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools.
•
Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to delivering accurate, consistent, high-quality translations.
•
Strong time-management skills and the ability to meet deadlines while managing a substantial weekly workload.
•
Excellent communication skills, responsiveness, reliability, and a willingness to receive and implement feedback.
•
Ability to work independently as a freelance professional while collaborating effectively with a global team.
Benefits
•
Fully remote freelance opportunity, with work available internationally.
•
Ongoing project with the potential to establish a long-term professional partnership.
•
Expected workload of 5,000+ words per week.
•
Opportunity to contribute to high-visibility international projects for a leading multinational company.
•
Access to a global network of linguists and language professionals.
•
Ongoing project support and collaboration throughout assignments.
•
Training provided during onboarding for the client-specific CAT tool.
•
Flexible freelance working arrangements, subject to project deadlines and volume requirements.
