About the job

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a DevOps Engineer based in the United States.

We are looking for an early-career DevOps Engineer to support mission-focused software development, quality assurance, and operational workflows in secure Department of Defense environments.

In this role, you will build automation scripts, contribute to CI/CD processes, support data pipelines, and improve engineering team workflows.

You will work with Python, Linux, Git, Docker, and JIRA while gaining exposure to modern cloud and container orchestration technologies.

The position offers a structured development path, with hands-on experience and mentorship to help you progress from junior to mid-level DevOps responsibilities.

You will collaborate with software developers, QA analysts, product owners, and operations engineers across NIPR environments, while supporting preparation for future SIPR migration.

As your skills and security eligibility develop, you will have opportunities to take on more advanced responsibilities involving Kubernetes, GitLab CI/CD, AWS, Databricks, and enterprise application environments.

Accountabilities

You will support development, testing, and operations teams by improving automation, deployment processes, data workflows, and collaboration practices. Your responsibilities will include:

•

Develop, maintain, and document Python-based automation scripts for development, QA, and operational teams.

•

Assist with CI/CD pipeline operations using GitLab and GitHub, including build automation, pipeline testing, and deployment workflows.

•

Support containerization activities using Docker and progressively contribute to Kubernetes-based application environments.

•

Maintain version control branches, merge processes, and repository structures.

•

Support data handling, SQL queries, and structured data preparation for development, testing, and operational analysis.

•

Assist with AWS- and Databricks-based data workflows, with training and onboarding provided.

•

Participate in functional testing, regression testing, defect logging, and pipeline validation.

•

Improve JIRA workflows, dashboards, ticket structures, and sprint boards to increase team efficiency.

•

Work on NIPR systems alongside development, testing, and operations teams, preparing artifacts and documentation for eventual SIPR migration.

•

Help establish repeatable processes that improve deployment consistency, environment stability, and traceability.

•

Progress toward SIPR access and more advanced responsibilities as security clearance adjudication permits.

•

Collaborate with cross-functional Agile teams on backlog refinement, user stories, acceptance criteria, and sprint execution.

•

Document technical processes, results, and improvements clearly and consistently.

Requirements

The ideal candidate has a foundation in software engineering, automation, and data workflows, along with the motivation to develop broader DevOps capabilities. Candidates must meet one of the following education and experience combinations:

•

Bachelor's degree and 0–2 years of relevant experience.

•

Master's degree and 0–3 years of relevant experience.

•

8–10 years of relevant experience without a degree.

You should also demonstrate the following technical skills and capabilities:

•

Proficiency in Python for automation, data workflows, or computational scripting.

•

Working knowledge of Linux environments.

•

Familiarity with Git and collaborative version control workflows using GitHub or GitLab.

•

Basic understanding of SQL, relational database services (RDS), and Databricks.

•

Exposure to Docker or other containerized computing environments.

•

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to troubleshoot and debug technical workflows.

•

Ability to document technical procedures and collaborate effectively in an Agile/Scrum environment.

•

Eligibility to work on NIPR systems.

•

Eligibility to obtain a SECRET security clearance is highly preferred.

Additional experience that would be an advantage includes

•

Familiarity with Kubernetes concepts and container orchestration.

•

Experience with GitLab CI/CD or GitHub Actions.

•

Exposure to AWS services and cloud computing patterns.

•

Knowledge of Databricks, Spark, or distributed data processing workflows.

•

Basic understanding of .NET or Angular codebases and enterprise application environments.

•

Experience with scientific computing, high-performance computing (HPC), or reproducible computational pipelines.

•

Familiarity with JIRA administration, workflow optimization, or dashboard customization.

•

Exposure to MLOps or machine learning pipeline development.

Benefits

•

Structured career progression from junior to mid-level DevOps responsibilities.

•

Hands-on technical experience supported by mentorship and professional development.

•

Training and onboarding for AWS- and Databricks-based data workflows.

•

Opportunities to develop skills in Kubernetes, CI/CD automation, cloud deployments, and container orchestration.

•

Exposure to .NET application environments and mission-focused operational workflows.

•

Opportunities to take on elevated responsibilities as security clearance eligibility allows.
