About the job

Data Privacy & Protection Senior Consultant

About Zaviant

Zaviant, headquartered in Philadelphia, is a boutique consulting firm specializing in Data Security, Data Privacy/Protection, and Third-Party Risk Management. We partner with organizations to build effective and sustainable solutions that safeguard sensitive data and support compliance with complex, evolving regulatory requirements.

Position Overview

Zaviant is seeking an experienced and collaborative Data Privacy & Protection Senior Consultant to lead client engagements and help organizations design, implement, and mature their data privacy programs.

In this client-facing role, you will take ownership of day-to-day engagement delivery, including client relationships, project execution, deliverable quality, and coordination of supporting team members. You will apply your privacy expertise to help clients navigate regulatory requirements, improve their privacy programs, and implement practical, sustainable solutions.

Successful candidates will combine strong consulting and engagement leadership skills with technical curiosity and the ability to translate privacy requirements into operational processes and technology solutions. Experience independently configuring privacy management platforms, such as OneTrust or similar technologies, is highly valued. Equally important is a demonstrated ability to quickly learn new platforms and develop hands-on configuration expertise.

As a Senior Consultant, you will lead and mentor Consultants assigned to your engagements without formal direct-report responsibilities.

Depending on engagement needs, Senior Consultants may serve as the Engagement Leader or contribute as a subject-matter, technical, advisory, or delivery resource supporting another Engagement Leader.

Key Responsibilities

Engagement Leadership & Client Management

  • When assigned as Engagement Leader, independently lead the day-to-day execution of client engagements, managing project activities, timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder communication.
  • When serving as the Engagement Leader, act as the primary day-to-day client contact, leading meetings, managing expectations, and presenting findings and recommendations. When serving as an engagement resource, support client interactions within the scope of the assigned role.
  • Provide project-level direction to supporting Consultants, including assigning work, reviewing deliverables, and providing feedback.
  • Ensure engagements are delivered on time, within agreed scope, and in accordance with Zaviant's quality standards.
  • Monitor engagement scope, effort, milestones, dependencies, and utilization when servicing as Engagement Leader; identify project risks, delivery challenges, and potential scope changes, proactively addressing or escalating issues as appropriate.
  • When assigned as an engagement resource, collaborate effectively with the designated Engagement Leader, take ownership of assigned workstreams or areas of expertise, communicate progress and risks proactively, and support successful delivery of the overall engagement.
  • Build trusted relationships with clients through effective communication, sound judgment, and a proactive, solutions-oriented approach.

Privacy Advisory & Technology Delivery

  • Lead privacy assessments, program development initiatives, risk evaluations, and regulatory compliance reviews.
  • Translate privacy requirements and client business needs into practical processes, controls, and technology solutions.
  • Support and lead the configuration and implementation of privacy management platforms, including areas such as data mapping, DPIAs, consent management, and data subject rights.
  • Develop hands-on expertise across Zaviant's privacy technology partners, independently learning new platform capabilities and configuration approaches as needed.
  • Work directly with platform configurations, workflows, and functionality to deliver client solutions rather than relying solely on advisory or oversight responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with client legal, compliance, IT, security, and business teams to operationalize privacy solutions.

Team & Practice Development

  • Coach and mentor Consultants assigned to engagements, helping improve their technical and consulting capabilities.
  • Contribute to Zaviant's methodologies, delivery templates, service offerings, and internal knowledge-sharing.
  • Support engagement scoping, estimates, and follow-on opportunities by providing delivery, technical, and subject-matter input.
  • Stay current on emerging privacy regulations, technologies, and industry practices.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in data privacy, compliance, security, risk management, or related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently lead client engagements or complex projects, including managing stakeholders, project execution, and deliverable quality.
  • Strong client-facing communication, presentation, relationship management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of U.S., European, and applicable global privacy regulations and privacy program operations.
  • Strong technical aptitude, with demonstrated ability to understand, learn, and configure complex software platforms and translate business requirements into functional solutions.
  • Hands-on experience independently configuring OneTrust, Osano, Transcend, Ketch, TrustArc, or comparable privacy management platforms.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and provide effective project-level leadership to supporting team members.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, adaptability, and commitment to continuous learning.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience implementing privacy technology solutions from requirements gathering through configuration, testing, and deployment.
  • Prior experience in a consulting or professional services environment.
  • IAPP certifications such as CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPM, or CIPT.
  • OneTrust Professional or Expert certifications.
  • Experience mentoring junior consultants and contributing to client proposals or engagement scoping.
