About the job

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Contractor - Senior Full-Stack Python Engineer based in Brazil.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Full-Stack Python Engineer to help modernize critical business systems for a US-based healthcare benefits administrator. In this role, you will build new applications from the ground up using Django, Django REST Framework, React, and Microsoft Azure. You will take ownership of features across the entire development lifecycle, from database design and API architecture to user-facing interfaces. Working alongside engineering teams and client stakeholders, you will translate complex business rules into reliable, well-tested software. The projects involve integrations with claims administration platforms and enterprise data environments, where security, accuracy, and auditability are essential. This is an opportunity to contribute to long-term, challenging projects in a collaborative, remote-first environment.

Accountabilities

•

Design, develop, and maintain full-stack web applications using Python, Django, Django REST Framework, React, and TypeScript.

•

Build and document versioned REST APIs that support integrations with internal services, external systems, and other development teams.

•

Design data models, database schemas, and migrations using PostgreSQL, ensuring data consistency and maintainability.

•

Implement complex, calculation-heavy business logic, including insurance rating and renewal rules, supported by comprehensive automated testing.

•

Integrate applications with third-party APIs, commercial claims administration platforms, and enterprise data lakehouses.

•

Develop reliable integration workflows that account for API rate limits, retries, asynchronous processing, and audit trails.

•

Contribute to architecture and technical decisions across multiple related projects, maintaining consistency in shared services and development standards.

•

Deploy and support containerized applications in cloud environments, primarily using Azure.

•

Collaborate directly with client IT and business stakeholders to clarify requirements, validate functionality, and deliver solutions aligned with operational needs.

•

Use AI-assisted development tools responsibly to accelerate implementation, write clear technical specifications, and review generated code for accuracy, security, and quality.

•

Maintain high engineering standards through unit testing, end-to-end testing, code reviews, and clear technical documentation.

Requirements

•

At least 6 years of professional experience in full-stack or backend software development.

•

Strong production experience with Python and Django, including Django REST Framework.

•

Proven experience developing production applications with React and TypeScript.

•

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.

•

Solid PostgreSQL expertise, including relational data modeling, schema design, and database migrations.

•

Experience designing, developing, documenting, and integrating REST APIs.

•

Familiarity with asynchronous processing and background task management using technologies such as Celery and Redis.

•

Strong automated testing practices, including unit testing with pytest and end-to-end testing with Playwright or similar frameworks.

•

Experience deploying containerized applications in cloud environments, with Microsoft Azure preferred.

•

Practical experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot, including the ability to write clear specifications and critically evaluate AI-generated code.

•

Strong written and spoken English communication skills, with confidence collaborating directly with international clients and business stakeholders.

•

Ability to work independently, take ownership of end-to-end features, and translate complex requirements into maintainable technical solutions.

•

Nice to have

•

Experience in healthcare, insurance, benefits administration, or working with HIPAA-regulated data and protected health information.

•

Familiarity with Azure services such as Container Apps, Key Vault, and Entra ID, as well as GitHub Actions.

•

Experience translating spreadsheet-based business models and calculations into production code.

•

Knowledge of versioned or effective-dated data models.

•

Experience generating PDF documents from application data.

•

Previous consulting or client-facing software development experience.

Benefits

•

100% remote working arrangement with flexibility.

•

Full-time, long-term projects with internationally recognized organizations.

•

Human-centered, people-first working environment.

•

Strong learning culture with regular pairing sessions and opportunities to share technical knowledge.

•

Opportunities to participate in conferences, contribute to open-source projects, create tutorials and blog posts, and deliver technical talks.

•

Collaboration with talented and passionate engineering professionals.

•

Timely payments, with the flexibility to choose the payment date modality that best suits your needs.

•

Access to a supportive professional community focused on collaboration and continuous growth.
