About the job
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an AML/Compliance Analyst based in Canada.
Join a fast-growing, globally distributed financial technology team developing innovative brokerage and digital asset infrastructure. As an AML/Compliance Analyst, you will play a key role in protecting a cryptocurrency platform against financial crime while ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory requirements. Working closely with the Chief Compliance Officer, you will oversee transaction monitoring, investigate suspicious activities, and assess risks associated with digital asset transactions. You will leverage blockchain analytics and financial crime investigation tools to identify potential threats and strengthen compliance controls. This is an opportunity to contribute to the development of robust AML operations in a dynamic, international, and fully remote environment. Your work will directly support the security, integrity, and responsible growth of digital financial services.
Accountabilities
- Conduct daily reviews of transaction monitoring alerts across fiat and cryptocurrency transactions, identifying unusual patterns and potentially suspicious activities.
- Investigate complex customer accounts and blockchain transactions, trace digital asset movements, and prepare clear investigative reports and Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) for relevant regulatory authorities.
- Use blockchain analytics platforms such as Chainalysis, TRM Labs, and Elliptic to identify high-risk wallet interactions, trace cryptocurrency flows, and assess exposure to illicit financial activities.
- Support escalated Know Your Customer (KYC) and Know Your Business (KYB) reviews, Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD), and sanctions screening, including OFAC-related checks.
- Collaborate with the Chief Compliance Officer and compliance engineering teams to improve transaction monitoring rules, optimize detection capabilities, and reduce false positives without compromising risk coverage.
- Work cross-functionally with Customer Support, Engineering, and Product teams to integrate effective compliance controls into digital financial products and API-based services.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of AML procedures, risk management practices, and regulatory compliance operations.
Requirements
- 2–5 years of professional experience in AML, transaction monitoring, or financial crime compliance within a cryptocurrency exchange, fintech company, or traditional financial institution.
- Strong understanding of blockchain technology, digital assets, cryptocurrency transactions, and the specific financial crime risks associated with the crypto ecosystem.
- Solid knowledge of Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and AML regulations, OFAC sanctions requirements, and FinCEN guidance relating to virtual currencies.
- Hands-on experience with blockchain analytics platforms such as Chainalysis, TRM Labs, or Elliptic, as well as traditional fiat transaction monitoring systems.
- Strong analytical and investigative skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data, identify suspicious patterns, and connect information across multiple platforms.
- Excellent written communication skills, particularly in preparing detailed, accurate, and well-structured investigative narratives and regulatory reports.
- Ability to work independently, demonstrate sound judgment, and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, fully remote environment.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively alongside compliance, engineering, product, and customer-facing teams.
- Relevant professional certifications such as CAMS, CGSS, CCAS, or Chainalysis Reactor Certification are considered a strong advantage.
Benefits
- Competitive salary package.
- Stock options, providing an opportunity to participate in the company's growth.
- Health benefits.
- One-time USD $500 home-office setup allowance for new hires.
- Monthly USD $150 stipend provided through a Brex card.
- Fully remote working environment within a globally distributed team.
- Opportunity to contribute to innovative financial technology and digital asset infrastructure.
- Collaborative international environment with opportunities to work alongside experienced professionals in compliance, engineering, trading, and financial services.
