About the job

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Agile Scrum Master based in the United States.

As an Agile Scrum Master, you will play a key role in driving successful software delivery for a major government transportation management program. You will coach and support multiple Agile teams, applying Scrum and Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) methodologies to improve collaboration, productivity, and delivery outcomes. Working closely with Product Owners, Release Train Engineers, business analysts, and technical stakeholders, you will facilitate planning, development, testing, and deployment activities. You will help teams overcome obstacles, manage dependencies, and maintain alignment with program objectives. The role combines hands-on Agile facilitation with team leadership, continuous improvement, and delivery oversight. This is an opportunity to contribute to mission-critical technology solutions in a collaborative, security-focused environment.

Accountabilities

•

Coach and lead Agile teams operating within a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), fostering collaboration, accountability, and high-performance delivery.

•

Facilitate team breakouts during Program Increment (PI) Planning, helping teams define priorities, coordinate activities, and establish clear PI objectives.

•

Organize and facilitate key Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, retrospectives, demonstrations, and iteration-level execution activities throughout each Program Increment.

•

Coordinate backlog refinement in collaboration with Product Owners and Business Analysts to ensure requirements are clearly defined, prioritized, and ready for development.

•

Identify, track, and remove impediments affecting team performance, coordinating with the broader organization to resolve blockers and facilitate cross-team collaboration.

•

Monitor and maintain Agile performance metrics to evaluate delivery effectiveness, identify improvement opportunities, and support informed decision-making.

•

Perform capacity planning to help teams estimate workloads, organize iterations, and establish realistic delivery commitments.

•

Collaborate with other Scrum Masters to manage dependencies, coordinate activities, and promote consistent Agile practices across teams.

•

Work closely with architects, cybersecurity specialists, engineering teams, and other stakeholders to ensure effective technical communication and alignment.

•

Coordinate product releases and manage dependencies involving multiple teams, third parties, and other Scrum teams.

•

Support the development and maintenance of product roadmaps, ensuring alignment between delivery priorities and business objectives.

•

Encourage continuous improvement by coaching teams, strengthening Agile practices, and helping them develop into increasingly autonomous, high-performing units.

•

Design and refine processes to improve software quality, operational efficiency, and delivery productivity.

•

Actively contribute to Agile communities of practice, sharing knowledge, promoting best practices, and strengthening the organization's Agile culture.

•

Ensure appropriate staffing and resource allocation for assigned Epics and Features.

•

Coordinate work schedules, provide technical and operational guidance, and resolve delivery challenges to achieve performance and business objectives.

•

Ensure that deliverables meet established quality standards and are completed within expected timelines.

Requirements

•

U.S. citizenship and an active Secret security clearance. Candidates must be able to pass an IT-1 background investigation. The clearance must be active, in scope, and recorded in the Defense Information System for Security (DISS) before the start date.

•

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and professional experience, with at least 7 years of relevant experience.

•

Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or Certified SAFe Scrum Master qualification, with substantial experience coaching and supporting Agile teams.

•

At least 3 years of experience leading teams using Agile Scrum or scaled Agile methodologies.

•

Strong understanding of the full software development lifecycle, including planning, development, requirements management, configuration management (CM), quality assurance, and release management.

•

Practical experience applying Agile and SAFe principles to coordinate complex software development and delivery activities.

•

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build productive relationships with customers, Product Owners, technical teams, and other stakeholders.

•

Strong organizational, facilitation, problem-solving, and coordination abilities.

•

Highly responsible, proactive, and team-oriented professional with a strong work ethic and the ability to work independently.

•

Preferred qualifications

•

SAFe Advanced Scrum Master, SAFe Practitioner, or another recognized scaled Agile certification.

•

Experience working with continuous deployment models and modern software delivery practices.

•

Ability to apply advanced principles, theories, and concepts while contributing innovative ideas and process improvements.

•

Location requirement: Candidates must reside within a one-hour commuting distance of Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. This is a strict requirement.

•

Travel availability: Willingness to travel approximately 10% of the time, with visits to Scott Air Force Base every 12 weeks.

•

This position is not subject to the program's Department of Defense (DoD) 8140 workforce qualification requirement.

Benefits

•

Full-time employment opportunity.

•

Remote working arrangement for eligible candidates residing within one hour of Scott Air Force Base, Illinois.

•

Opportunity to contribute to a major government transportation technology program.

•

Professional development through hands-on experience with Agile, Scrum, and SAFe methodologies.

•

Exposure to complex software development, program delivery, and enterprise-level Agile practices.
